Resort Site View a demo of this website
For this project, I was given the task not to create new content for a website, but instead to create a theme to fit existing content on a website. This was done by importing content into WordPress from the fictional Shangri-La Resort website, and redesigning it's look and feel.
WordPress, and other content management systems (CMS), are great for people who are looking to create their own website, but aren't able to code them themselves. With a content management system, a user can create content for a website without writing a single line of code. However, if they want something different than premade themes, a web designer can be hired to make a custom theme to fit the CMS, which can easily be applied to the content of the website. WordPress theme development shares a lot of similarities with traditional PHP, but there are enough differences that make it a valuable thing to learn on it's own.
Additionally, I also gained some experience working with API keys, where the OpenWeather API was used to get the current temperature of the resort - the actual location used for this was the capital city of Guadeloupe, Basse-Terre.
